| Routine Blood Tests |

Many laboratory tests require an overnight fast to ensure accurate blood test results. An overnight fast means nothing to eat or drink, except water, for 12-16 hours after an evening meal.
Blood test results are compared to a "reference range" statistically established from normal (healthy) individuals. If a test result is outside this range, either above or below, your physician will determine its significance. Even healthy individuals may have a test result slightly outside of the "reference range,"normal for that individual.
Common blood tests in this information are divided into two groups: Blood Chemistry (measure over 20 chemical substances in the blood) and Blood Hematology (assess the cellular portion of the blood.)
